Gavin LeBrecque is 13 years old from Salado, Texas. He was 10-10 in the 65A class and raced his 65 in the Super Mini class in the TORCS series. In 2021, he placed second in the 250FC class on his 65. This 2023 race season is a big jump for Gavin, moving up to a big bike as well as moving up to the 250 A class. Gavin tells us about switching bikes and classes and his expectations this race season.
“I moved from a Husky 85 last year in 250FB. This year I will be racing 250FA on a 2022 KTM 150 XC-W. It’s a taller and heavier bike that I still need to get used too. I have no expectations this season except to get faster and learn from the faster riders. I hope to earn podium one race.”
In 2022, Gavin raced an 85 in the B class. How hard was that racing against the bigger bikes on your 85?
“The smaller wheels of the 85 made some obstacles more difficult and it was hard to keep up with the bigger bikes in the open. I felt like I was faster in the woods though. The height and weight difference of the big bike will be my biggest hurdle. The larger wheels seem like they will help me with obstacles and the rougher terrain.”
Any idols for you- who locally has provided you inspiration? Who are your local off-road heros? What is a piece of advice you’d like to give to someone who may look up to you?
“I really look up to Pat Smage and Mouse McCoy. Pat is so talented and Mouse is just someone who never quits.
I would give the same advice my dad gives me. You get outta dirt bike riding exactly what you put into it. And always have fun.”
Gavin also enjoys riding his mountain bike and tinker in the shop. Congrats Gavin on your success this far and we can’t wait to see what you become!
